View Article  Into 2006 with a new committee

On December 8th 2006, a new committee was formed at the Annual General Meeting of the Preston City Caribbean Carnival Association.  The meeting was chaired by councillor Carl Crompton who also invited the Mayor Bikhu Patel to briefly speak at the meeting.  Both councillors gave their unequivocal support to the largest cultural street festival in the North-West, the Preston City Caribbean Carnival.

 

The new committee consists of:

Ronald Clarke - Chairman

Felina Merrifield - Vice Chairman

Dian Flannagan - Treasurer

Phiona Hesketh - Secretary

Fiona Merrifield, Ossie Weir, Sonia Sampson and Emily Odudu

.., it was agreed that other members would be co-opted on by this new executive committee.

The new executive recorded their determination to give Preston a Caribbean Carnival to remember in 2006 and that the procession would once again make its way into the city centre where it would trigger a finale with lots of energy and an extravaganza of colour, food, dance, music on a large sound stage which you will feel before you actually see it.

View Article  Preston City Carnival returns to the May Bank Holiday in 2006

After a procession-less event in 2005, the carnival executive committee has declared at the last public meeting that the event will return to the traditional time of Whit sun tide.

Having been given notice that the Monday Bank Holiday will automatically increase Health and Safety costs to the tune of £16,000 it was agreed at the meeting that the executive should seek to organise the event on the Sunday before the Monday Bank Holiday.
