Dear Carnival enthusiast,
The Caribbean Carnival Executive Committee are pleased to announce that as a result of the traditional Caribbean Carnival procession having to be cancelled this year, we have managed to arrange a 1 day static event to give you and the citizens of Preston, in particular children and young people, the opportunity to celebrate a scaled down Caribbean Carnival event. It will be an opportunity for you and your band members and many others to dress up in costumes, feel the fun and take in the atmosphere and experience a taste of what is to come in 2006, which promises to be spectacular!
The executive committee and other council officials have discussed the proposal for this scaled down event at some length. The location will be the covered market in the City centre.
Due to the restricted space available to us, the committee has had to put a limit on the number of participants/bands that can take part in this event. Therefore committee will be giving priority to bands, which have a significant cross representation of the population of our proud city. Particular invitations and encouragement will be given to bands containing young people and children. Participation in this event will be on a first come first served basis, and would welcome expressions of interest from Carnival Bands you are connected with.
You are invited to the next public meeting to be held at the Caribbean Sports and Social Club on Kent Street, commencing 5.00pm on Sunday 22nd May 2005.
We would like to again stress that this year’s event cannot consist of a procession, only a static event under the covered market. If you are interested please attend the meeting where more details of the event will be given.
